Lucca is one of the most artistical towns of Italy, famous also abroad for its walls of the XV-XVII century. The walls, surrounding the historical centre of the town , having a lenght of 4.550 m., keep their original and good shape. Lucca is one of the four province main towns of Italy, with Ferrara, Grosseto and Bergamo, having these walls, which were transformed, starting from the middle of the 19th century, into a pleasant walk. Still today the Lucca's walls are one of the best preserved in Europe, this is due to the fact that, during the last centuries, they were never used to defend the town.

As a conseguence, also the historical centre of Lucca preserves its original shape and counts numerous important architectures, like the many Middle Ages churches of remarkable architectonic reachness (Lucca was in fact named "the town of the 100 churches" thanks to the numerous churches of the historical centre, still consecrated or not, present in the town, in the past and today), the towers, the bell-towers, the Renaissance monumental palaces of valuable stylistic linearity.

The town also boasts of evocative urban space: the most famous is the Anphitheatre square, which was born on the ruins of the Roman Anphitheatre and which is the masterpiece of the architect Lorenzo Nottolini. It's unic in its architectonic genre.

Main artery of the historical town is the narrow and Middle Ages street "Via Fillungo", along with the main shops are located.
